About the role

Enovis Corporation (NYSE: ENOV) is an innovation-driven medical technology growth company dedicated to developing clinically differentiated solutions that generate better patient outcomes in orthopedics and surgical care.

The Enovis Surgical Co-op Program is a unique, full-year immersion program based in Austin, TX. As an R&D Co-op, you will be fully integrated into a New Product Development (NPD) team, assisting engineers and managers with every stage of the orthopedic device lifecycle—from initial concept proposals and CAD modeling to prototyping, Design History File (DHF) documentation, and commercial release.

Key Responsibilities

  • New Product Development: Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Manufacturing Engineering, Purchasing, Regulatory, Marketing) to identify surgeon requirements, define product specs, and build device concepts.
  • CAD & Prototyping: Use 3D CAD modeling software to design components, generate detailed engineering drawings, process ECOs (Engineering Change Orders), and create 3D-printed or metal prototypes.
  • Design Dossier & DHF Documentation: Maintain Design History Files (DHFs), including Design Input Documents, Design Validation Plans, Test Protocols/Reports, and Design Input/Output Matrices.
  • Surgeon & Field Interaction: Participate in key opinion leader (KOL) meetings, surgeon focus groups, symposia, and surgical lab demonstrations to gather feedback on prototype designs.
  • Testing & Verification: Develop detailed mechanical test protocols, execute testing, analyze performance data, and write validation reports under supervision.
  • Project Planning: Help build and monitor project schedules using planning tools, reporting updates and milestones to management.

Requirements

Academic & Program Status

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering (with a mechanical track focus).
  • Completed at least the first two years of undergraduate coursework with a minimum overall GPA of 3.0.
  • Available to commit to working 40 hours per week onsite in Austin, TX for 1 full calendar year.

Technical Capabilities & Competencies

  • Deep interest in medical devices, orthopedics, or biomechanics.
  • Fundamental knowledge of 3D CAD modeling software, engineering drafting, and GD&T concepts.
  • Ability to write clear technical documentation, test protocols, and structured engineering reports.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and practical problem-solving capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with rapid prototyping technologies (3D printing, CNC machining, metal prototyping).
  • Familiarity with medical device quality systems, ISO standards, or FDA Design Controls.

Program Benefits & Workplace Culture

  • Full Team Integration: Work on real-world medical device projects alongside experienced mentors rather than observing from the sidelines.
  • Direct Clinical Exposure: Learn directly from orthopedic surgeons and key opinion leaders during product feedback loops and cadaveric lab demos.
