About the role

Datadog is the leading observability and security platform for the AI era, providing businesses with unified visibility across the technology stack to manage complexity at scale.

As an Enterprise Sales Engineer, you will partner directly with Account Executives to own and shape the technical strategy across enterprise sales opportunities—from pipeline generation (PG) to Closed Won. You will act as a trusted advisor, bridging executive business goals with complex technical solutions. In this high-impact role, you will lead discovery sessions to uncover technical hurdles, project manage Proofs of Value (POVs) end-to-end, cultivate technical champions within accounts, and deliver compelling product demonstrations spanning public cloud, Kubernetes, APM, tracing, security, and developer experience. Additionally, you will participate in structured product feedback sessions, serving as the voice of the customer to influence Datadog's core engineering roadmap.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Strategy & Account Ownership: Partner with Account Executives to lead technical strategy across enterprise opportunities, driving deals from initial qualification through technical closing.
  • Discovery & Value Translation: Conduct in-depth technical discovery to uncover customer architectural bottlenecks and business goals, translating requirements into tailored Datadog observability solutions.
  • Engaging Demos & Workshops: Deliver high-impact product demonstrations, technical architecture reviews, and hands-on workshops connecting platform capabilities directly to business outcomes.
  • End-to-End POV Project Management: Scope use cases, define clear evaluation criteria, build project timelines, and project manage Proofs of Value (POVs) to hold all stakeholders accountable.
  • Champion Cultivation: Identify and empower technical champions within prospective accounts to advocate for Datadog adoption and drive internal consensus.
  • Field-to-Product Feedback Loop: Participate in product feedback channels to convey customer requirements, competitive insights, and feature requests to Product Management and Engineering teams.
  • Operational Excellence: Maintain precise CRM documentation regarding deal progress, technical blockers, and customer interactions while leveraging modern AI productivity tools.

Requirements

Technical Pre-Sales & Infrastructure Depth

  • 5+ years of experience as a Sales Engineer, Solutions Engineer, or technical customer-facing role within an enterprise software environment.
  • Cloud & Modern Infrastructure Mastery: Proficient background in public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), Kubernetes, container orchestration, and cloud-native architectures.
  • Observability & Security Tooling: Deep technical familiarity with APM, distributed tracing, log management, infrastructure monitoring, and developer security tools.
  • Multi-Stakeholder Navigation: Demonstrated ability to tailor technical, consultative communications across developer, engineering lead, and C-level executive audiences.
  • Consultative Problem Solving: Structured approach to managing multiple sales opportunities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Growth Mindset & AI Adoption: Proactive approach to learning emerging cloud technologies and adopting modern AI tools into pre-sales workflows.
  • Travel Logistics: Flexibility to travel as needed for key customer on-site presentations and events.

Total Rewards & Benefits

  • Compensation & Equity: Base salary range of $118,000 – $157,000 USD + variable incentive compensation + Restricted Stock Units (RSUs) + Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP) discount.
  • Healthcare & Family Support: Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance coverage, parental planning support, and mental health stipends.
  • Retirement & Financial: 401(k) plan with company match, fitness reimbursements, and generous paid time off.
  • Culture & Professional Growth: Best-in-breed onboarding, cross-departmental mentor and buddy programs, continuous product training, and access to internal Community Guilds.
