Mobile Software Engineer - iOS, Android & React Native

The Identity Product Experience team owns Stripe Identity’s mobile SDKs across iOS (Swift/Objective-C), Android, and React Native. These SDKs enable developers and growing internet platforms to embed secure, frictionless identity verification directly into their mobile apps using document capture, biometric selfie verification, and fraud prevention signals.

As an iOS Software Engineer on the Identity team, you will design, build, and maintain Stripe Identity's mobile SDKs, camera capture pipelines, and developer-facing APIs. You will work end-to-end across mobile clients, local state management, supporting backend microservices, and security controls to deliver polished, highly accessible verification experiences that handle sensitive data globally.

Key Responsibilities

• Identity Mobile SDK Development: Design, build, and maintain reusable, extensible mobile SDK APIs and components across iOS (Swift/Objective-C), Android, and React Native.
• Complex Capture Flows: Create polished, accessible user experiences for complex verification journeys, including real-time document capture, biometric selfie processing, and camera integrations across diverse hardware capabilities.
• Full-Stack Mobile Integration: Connect mobile SDK clients to Stripe backend APIs and services, ensuring seamless data flow, local state management, and offline resilience rather than treating mobile as an isolated UI layer.
• Developer Experience (DX) & Reliability: Improve SDK performance, test coverage, release automation, backward compatibility, and observability for developer integration teams across fintech, marketplaces, and e-commerce.
• Security & Privacy by Design: Make thoughtful architectural decisions that balance user experience, high conversion, sensitive data privacy, zero-trust security, and long-term maintainability.
• Cross-Functional & User Collaboration: Partner closely with Product Managers, Designers, ML Engineers, Backend Engineers, and Stripe integration partners to turn feedback into product improvements.

Requirements

Mobile Engineering & Technical Fundamentals

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience building, shipping, and operating mobile applications or developer-facing SDKs.
• iOS Expertise: Strong hands-on development experience for iOS using Swift or Objective-C.
• Software Architecture & API Design: Solid software design fundamentals with a proven track record creating clean, maintainable APIs, reusable component libraries, or framework abstractions.
• Full-Spectrum Mobile Systems: Practical experience delivering mobile functionality beyond basic UI layouts—including REST/gRPC API integration, state management, device hardware APIs (camera, sensors), and local persistence.
• Production Operations: Demonstrated experience testing, debugging, monitoring, profiling, and supporting mobile software in high-scale production environments.
• Collaboration & Craft: Strong communication skills with a focus on delivering polished, accessible, and high-quality user and developer experiences.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience building public-facing mobile SDKs, shared libraries, or open-source APIs used outside your immediate team.
• Exposure to multi-platform mobile technologies, including Android (Kotlin), React Native, or Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP).
• Hands-on experience with mobile camera APIs, image processing, document capture engines, or biometric frameworks.
• Experience designing mobile software that handles sensitive PII data using strict security, encryption, and privacy principles by default.
• Familiarity with accessibility standards (a11y), internationalization (i18n), mobile CI/CD pipelines, release automation, and network resilience.
• Direct experience contributing to backend microservices or APIs that support mobile client applications.
