About the role

Mercury is building a complete finance stack for startups, designing seamless and secure financial tools to simplify entrepreneurs' and business owners' lives. Underneath Mercury’s products is a complex ecosystem of banking partners, internal microservices, payment rails, and funds flows.

The Financial Data Reconciliation team enables Mercury's core infrastructure by ensuring end-to-end tracking of transactions across partner banks and internal platforms, protecting customer funds through rigorous, automated reconciliation. The team manages the full reconciliation lifecycle—from engineering data pipelines that transform and enrich transactional data, to investigating edge-case exceptions, to reporting overall reconciliation health to leadership.

Mercury is hiring a Senior Financial Data Reconciliation Analyst to operationalize, standardize, and scale reconciliation frameworks across all banking partners and internal systems. As a senior leader on this team, you will drive cross-functional initiatives from architectural design through delivery, partner with Product, Engineering, and Finance, and mentor growing analysts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reconciliation Architecture: Own the design and execution of end-to-end reconciliations for new and existing financial products and funds flows, establishing technical standards for the team.
  • Data Pipeline Engineering: Develop and maintain data transformations, enrichment logic, and matching rules using SQL and dbt to power scalable reconciliation across internal and external banking systems.
  • Exception & Root-Cause Investigation: Monitor and investigate complex reconciliation breaks, driving root-cause analyses with Product, Engineering, Finance, and banking partners to deliver permanent operational fixes.
  • Observability & Analytics: Build monitoring, alerting, and reporting dashboards (using Omni, Looker, or Tableau) to track reconciliation risks, break trends, and health metrics.
  • Technical Specifications & Product Readiness: Define reconciliation requirements and control specifications early in the product design lifecycle alongside Product, Data, and Engineering teams.
  • Audit & Month-End Support: Partner with Accounting to support month-end close processes, audit readiness, and financial control testing through accurate reconciliation documentation.
  • Control Roadmap & Leadership: Shape and execute the reconciliation control roadmap as product coverage and transaction volume grow.
  • Mentorship: Provide hands-on coaching and technical guidance to help other analysts develop their SQL, pipeline engineering, and investigative capabilities.

Requirements

Experience & Background

  • 6+ years of professional experience working with complex transactional and financial data in fintech, banking, or financial services (focused on reconciliation, settlement, payment operations, or accounting).
  • Practical experience supporting financial audits, regulatory reporting, or internal financial-control testing.

Technical Skills & Domain Expertise

  • Working knowledge of banking payment rails and card networks (ACH, Wires, RTP, FedNow, Visa, Mastercard), including clearing, settlement, returns, and exception handling.
  • Advanced SQL proficiency with hands-on experience building and maintaining data transformation pipelines (e.g., dbt or similar frameworks).
  • Experience building operational or financial dashboards using BI tools (Omni, Looker, Tableau).
  • Familiarity with enterprise reconciliation platforms and matching tools (e.g., BlackLine).

Leadership & Soft Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset with a history of resolving complex financial discrepancies.
  • Demonstrated track record of leading cross-functional projects across technical (Engineering, Data) and non-technical (Accounting, Legal, Operations) partners.
  • Experience mentoring and coaching other analysts.

Total Rewards & Benefits

  • Compensation: Highly competitive base salary plus equity options (RSUs) updated regularly against industry surveys.
  • Healthcare & Wellness: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision health coverage.
  • Flexibility & Retirement: Competitive retirement plan options and remote work flexibility across the US and Canada.
