Senior Forward Deployed AI Engineer - Legacy Migration

As a Senior Forward Deployed AI Engineer, you will work directly with strategic enterprise customers on high-impact technical initiatives at the intersection of Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), database modernization, and full-stack software development. You will help clients refactor legacy monoliths into microservice architectures, migrate legacy relational databases to MongoDB, and prototype production-ready GenAI features. In addition to solving complex engineering challenges on site and remotely, you will feed real-world field insights directly into MongoDB’s core product and AI engineering roadmaps.

Key Responsibilities

• Enterprise Application Modernization: Partner with enterprise customers to refactor legacy monoliths, migrate legacy relational/document databases, and optimize backend query performance using MongoDB Atlas.
• GenAI & LLM Feature Prototyping: Prototype and build production-grade AI-powered applications, leveraging LLMs, vector search, and Generative AI frameworks to transform software development workflows and user features.
• Architectural Acceleration: Apply modern software engineering practices—including microservices, test-driven development (TDD), and intelligent automation—to accelerate enterprise AI adoption.
• Product Strategy & Influence: Channel field execution insights, customer friction points, and real-world implementation requirements back to MongoDB’s core AI and software development product teams.
• Cross-Functional Engineering Delivery: Collaborate with customer technical leads, internal solutions architects, and core engineering pods to deliver scalable, resilient data infrastructure.

Requirements

Software Engineering & AI Technical Depth

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with a proven track record delivering technical solutions for enterprise clients.
• Core Programming Stack: Deep proficiency in Java, SQL, and Python.
• Formal Technical Education: Engineering degree (BS/MS) in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Mathematics, Network Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
• AI/ML Concepts & Tools: Practical knowledge of AI/ML concepts, open-source frameworks, prompt engineering, and building LLM-integrated applications.
• Modern Architecture & TDD: Solid mastery of test-driven development methodologies, microservice architectures, API design, and legacy database migration strategies.
• Complex Problem Solving: Strong drive to tackle complex, ambiguous, "un-Googleable" technical challenges in enterprise environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Academic or industrial research background in AST parsing, compiler design, machine learning, or programming language theory.
• Direct experience with MongoDB Atlas Vector Search, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines, and agentic framework design.
• Prior experience operating in forward-deployed, technical consulting, or enterprise client-facing engineering roles.
