About the role

At Affirm, we exist for the moments that matter—giving people a clear, predictable way to pay over time with no hidden fees, no surprises, and no trade-offs.

As a Software Engineer on the Capital Orchestration team, you will build the foundational financial platform responsible for providing liquidity to Affirm by enabling the sale and collateralization of loan assets. Our team develops extensible, low-latency platforms that scale to reconcile billions of dollars in collateral movement each month across systems, banking partners, and cash ledger flows. In this full-stack/backend engineering role, you will construct automated data pipelines, develop intuitive React interfaces for internal operations, leverage agentic coding tools, and optimize capital systems that ensure Affirm can originate loans and pay merchant partners globally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Foundational Platform Development: Build, launch, and maintain scalable software services that reconcile individual transaction movements across internal platforms, banking partners, and capital ledger systems.
  • Data Pipeline Engineering: Build and integrate automated batch and event-driven data pipelines using modern processing frameworks (Python, Airflow, Spark, SQL).
  • Internal Web Experiences: Design and deliver intuitive frontend workflows (JavaScript/React) that streamline daily operations for capital markets and finance teams.
  • Project Scoping & Phased Delivery: Partner with Tech Leads and Managers to break down complex architectural requirements into phased tasks, delivering well-tested, maintainable code.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Product Managers, Analytics, and Design leads during product ideation to articulate technical constraints, evaluate trade-offs, and define system specs.
  • Operational Excellence & On-Call: Instrument system metrics, set up latency/freshness alerts, participate in team on-call rotations, and support production availability.
  • Code Reviews & Quality: Conduct peer code reviews, mentor fellow engineers, refine technical designs, and maintain high testing and documentation standards.

Requirements

Software Engineering & Technical Depth

  • 1.5+ years of professional software engineering experience building and maintaining production applications.
  • Full-Stack / Backend Proficiency: Demonstrated fluency in full-stack web development, backend microservices, event processing, or batch data pipelines.
  • Code Architecture & Debugging: Proven ability to translate business scenarios into modular software solutions across complex codebases.
  • Agentic Coding Proficiency: Hands-on experience utilizing agentic coding tools to accelerate development workflows, refactoring, and code generation.
  • Communication & Ownership: Strong verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with distributed teams and take end-to-end ownership of project deliverables.
  • Education / Experience: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related quantitative field (or equivalent practical experience).

Work Logistics

  • Ability to work remotely from within the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Python, JavaScript / React, Apache Airflow, Apache Spark, SQL, and cloud data warehouses.
  • Background in fintech, capital markets, payment processing, ledger systems, or financial reconciliation engines.
  • Familiarity with Horizon Portal or similar internal operational tooling frameworks.

Total Rewards & Benefits

  • Compensation & Equity: Tiered base salary ($146,000 – $225,000 USD) + stock option/equity grants + Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP).
  • 100% Subsidized Healthcare: Medical, dental, and vision coverage with 100% of premiums paid by Affirm for employees and dependents.
  • Spending Stipends: Monthly Flexible Spending Wallets for tech setup, food, health, and lifestyle expenses.
  • Time Off & Rest: Flexible time off policy, generous holiday calendar, and "Away Days" wellness time to recharge.
  • Learning & Growth: Dedicated learning and development budgets, parental benefits, and active Employee Resource Groups (ERGs).
