About the role

MongoDB is the unified data platform built for the AI era, enabling developers and enterprise organizations to build, transform, and scale applications. Over 67,000 customers—including 75% of the Fortune 100—rely on MongoDB Atlas across AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure.

As a Pre-Sales Solution Architect, you will serve as a trusted technical advisor, partnering directly with enterprise customers and internal sales executives to design reliable, performant, and scalable data architectures. You will drive technical discovery, lead architectural whiteboarding, construct Proofs of Value (PoVs), deliver hands-on code and sizing recommendations, and guide customers on their Generative AI journey utilizing MongoDB Atlas Vector Search, stream processing, and multi-cloud data patterns.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Architecture & Design: Architect distributed database solutions, migration paths (using Relational Migrator), and high-availability cloud deployments for complex enterprise software projects leveraging MongoDB Atlas.
  • Pre-Sales Technical Execution: Lead technical discovery, product demonstrations, Proofs of Value (PoVs), sizing exercises, architectural reviews, and technical objection handling alongside sales partners.
  • Value Articulation & Account Strategy: Partner with Sales Executives to execute multi-threaded account plans, aligning MongoDB products to customer business outcomes using structured sales methodologies (MEDDPICC).
  • Generative AI & Modern Stack Integration: Guide customers on integrating MongoDB Atlas with modern AI/ML frameworks, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines, Kafka event streams, and Kubernetes orchestration.
  • Demand Generation & Community: Drive territory pipeline through self-initiated technical engagements, whiteboarding sessions, industry trade shows, and developer community events.
  • Customer Success & Field Feedback: Build technical champions across customer organizations and relay field feedback to MongoDB Product and Engineering teams to influence the platform roadmap.

Requirements

Pre-Sales & Technical Depth

  • Customer-Facing Experience: 8 to 11 years of related experience in a customer-facing technical role, with 5 to 7 years in pre-sales / solution architecture for enterprise software.
  • Programming & Scripting: 3+ years of professional experience with modern scripting/programming languages (Python, Node.js, SQL, C/C++, Java, or C#).
  • Distributed Systems Architecture: Proven experience designing high-availability, scalable distributed systems across public cloud (AWS, GCP, Azure) and on-premises environments.
  • Architectural Modernization: Demonstrated ability to evaluate complex legacy application architectures and guide customers through technology modernization.
  • Executive Presentation: Exceptional communication, whiteboarding, and presentation skills tailored for technical developers as well as C-level executives.
  • Education & Travel: Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent practical experience) and ability to travel up to 25%.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct pre-sales experience with document/NoSQL/relational databases or data engineering/AI/ML platforms.
  • Practical experience with cloud hyperscaler services (AWS, Azure, GCP), Apache Kafka, Kubernetes, or microservices.
  • Familiarity with enterprise sales frameworks (MEDDPICC, Command of the Message).
  • Official certifications: MongoDB Certified Developer/DBA or Cloud Provider Certifications (AWS, Azure, GCP).

Total Rewards & Benefits

  • Compensation & Equity: Base salary range of $104,000 – $204,000 USD + incentive bonuses + equity packages + Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP).
  • Healthcare & Family Support: 20 weeks of fully paid gender-neutral parental leave, fertility & adoption assistance, and transgender-inclusive health insurance coverage.
