About the role
At the core of Epic’s success are talented, passionate people. Whether it’s developing award-winning titles like Fortnite, expanding the Epic Games Store and Fab, or crafting Unreal Engine technology, we continuously innovate to empower creators and deliver visually stunning interactive experiences to hundreds of millions of players worldwide.
As a Senior Data Scientist on the Transparency and Regulatory team, you will own the data pipelines, metric definitions, and validation tooling behind the official transparency reports Epic publishes under global regulations like the EU Digital Services Act (DSA). In this high-visibility role, you will bridge legal mandates, compliance frameworks, and data engineering—translating regulatory text into auditable metric definitions, verifying moderation numbers across Fortnite, Epic Games Store, and Fab, and leading data quality controls before public releases.
Key Responsibilities
- Regulatory Data Ownership: Own the end-to-end data lifecycle for recurring transparency reports, risk assessments, and compliance filings (DSA, COPPA) across Fortnite, Epic Games Store, and Fab.
- Regulatory-to-Metric Translation: Partner with Legal, Compliance, Trust & Safety, and Policy teams to translate regulatory text and legal requirements into productionalized, fully auditable metric definitions.
- Product & Feature Data Mapping: Map internal content moderation and child safety data (notices, appeals, statements of reasons, age assurance) to regulatory categories, ensuring new product features capture required metrics prior to launch.
- Data Engineering & Quality Automation: Work with Data Engineering to build data validation templates, monitor monthly pipeline checks, resolve schema drift/defects, and integrate new moderation flows.
- Audit & Compliance Support: Support internal controls reviews, third-party audits, and regulator requests for information (RFIs) with clear, documented data specifications.
- AI Tooling & Methodology Leadership: Drive company-wide reporting methodologies and utilize AI tools/agents daily for documentation, reconciliation, and automated metric review.
Requirements
Quantitative Data Science & Regulatory Depth
- 5+ years of professional experience as a Data Scientist or Quantitative Analyst.
- 2+ years of specialized experience working with Trust and Safety, integrity, risk, compliance, or regulatory reporting data.
- Big Data & Analytics Stack: Expert proficiency in SQL, Python, and big data processing frameworks (Spark, Databricks).
- Transparency & Audit Execution: Hands-on experience delivering recurring, deadline-bound regulatory reports (e.g., DSA, COPPA, compliance audits) that rely on cross-functional data inputs.
- Content Moderation Domain Knowledge: Familiarity with content moderation systems, child safety data, user appeals, statements of reasons, or age verification workflows.
- Data Engineering Tools: Experience with data visualization platforms, version control (GitHub), and pipeline orchestration (Apache Airflow).
- AI-Assisted Workflows: Practical experience applying AI tools in daily data engineering/science workflows for documentation, reconciliation, or code generation.
- Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a track record of authoring data specs for engineers and presenting findings to Legal and executive leadership.

- A genuine passion for gaming, interactive entertainment, and creator ecosystems.

- Experience supporting formal regulatory audits or government requests for information (RFIs).
- Direct experience authoring official transparency reports for major consumer platforms or interactive media companies.
- Advanced expertise building custom AI agents for automated data quality control and reconciliation.

- Financial Security: 401(k) retirement plan with competitive company match, plus Long-Term Disability and Life Insurance.
