About the role

Duolingo is the world's most popular language learning platform, on a mission to develop the best education in the world and make it universally available. Beyond our core gamified learning app, the Duolingo English Test (DET) is disrupting the high-stakes language-assessment industry—offering an accessible, AI-proctored, and affordable online English proficiency test recognized by over 6,000 higher education institutions worldwide.

As the Senior Product Manager for the Duolingo English Test, you will own the end-to-end user experience for DET across global acquisition funnels, monetization strategies, UI/UX flows, and AI-driven security mechanisms. Leading a cross-functional organization of over 90 colleagues—including AI researchers, software engineers, product designers, and psychometricians—you will drive zero-to-one feature validation, execute rigorous A/B experiments, and scale accessible testing to millions of international students seeking life-changing educational opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Global DET Product Strategy: Define and execute the multi-year product strategy to scale DET adoption across international student populations and global higher education partners.
  • End-to-End User Experience: Own and optimize the complete candidate lifecycle—from acquisition funnels and onboarding to payment checkout, desktop testing interface, and score distribution.
  • AI Research & Security Collaboration: Partner closely with AI research teams to develop cutting-edge computer vision, natural language processing (NLP), and proctoring features that enhance test integrity and psychometric efficacy.
  • Data-Driven Discovery & Experimentation: Conduct qualitative user interviews and quantitative statistical analyses to formulate hypotheses, design A/B experiments, and measure core business metrics.
  • Cross-Functional Execution: Lead an integrated team of 90+ engineers, researchers, designers, and marketers, guiding feature roadmaps with high execution velocity and design precision.

Requirements

Product Management & Quantitative Depth

  • Demonstrated success as a Senior Product Manager shipping high-impact consumer or platform software products.
  • Analytical & Statistical Rigor: Deep ability to leverage quantitative user metrics, A/B testing methodologies, and statistical analysis to inform product decisions.
  • Exemplary Design Taste: Obsession with end-user experience and pixel-perfect interface design in consumer digital applications.
  • Resourceful Execution: Proven ability to navigate ambiguous problem spaces, validate feature ideas rapidly, and move projects from concept to global deployment with urgency.

Education & Work Logistics

  • Passion for democratizing education through technology.
  • Ability to work effectively within Duolingo's product development hubs in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in Business Administration (MBA), Computer Science, Product Design, Psychology, or related quantitative fields.
  • Professional background in software engineering, UI/UX design, data science/analytics, or language learning technologies.
  • Direct experience with edtech platforms, high-stakes testing, AI-driven security, or international growth funnels.

Total Rewards & Benefits

  • Compensation & Equity: Base salary of $182,800 – $247,300 USD supplemented by competitive equity grants.
  • Holistic Healthcare: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage options for employees and dependents.
  • Employee Well-Being: Generous time-off policies, professional development budgets, and mental health support programs.
