Software Engineering Manager - Account Security

Every day, tens of millions of people come to Roblox to explore, create, play, learn, and connect across 3D immersive digital experiences. Protecting accounts across 100M+ monthly active users—ranging from young players to high-value creators with millions of dollars in digital assets—presents unique cybersecurity and identity challenges.

The Account Security (AccSec) pod sits within the Accounts team (part of the broader Safety organization) and is responsible for detecting, mitigating, and preventing Account Takeover (ATO) across all surfaces. Current and past initiatives include cryptographically binding user secrets to hardware-backed hardware modules, detecting client-side browser extension tampering, integrating Passkeys, building post-login ML detection models, and making compromised assets recoverable.

As the Engineering Manager for Account Security, you will lead and grow a team of 7+ engineers while driving Roblox's strategic anti-ATO roadmap. In collaboration with Product and Data Science partners, you will maintain technical authority, lead architectural reviews, contribute code when necessary, and scale security infrastructure designed to safeguard a global platform.

Key Responsibilities

• Strategic Vision & Roadmap: Formulate, present, and execute Roblox’s ongoing Account Security and anti-Account Takeover (ATO) strategy in close partnership with Product and Data Science leads.
• Engineering Leadership & Mentorship: Lead, hire, and mentor a high-performing team of 7+ software engineers, setting career development paths and fostering technical excellence.
• Technical Depth & Hands-On Architecture: Maintain technical authority across account security architectures—participating in deep code contributions, rigorous architectural reviews, and complex systems troubleshooting.
• Account Protection Initiatives: Drive product and infrastructure changes around hardware-backed cryptographic secrets, Passkey authentication, browser extension detection, and post-login ML behavior modeling.
• Privacy & Security Reviews: Consult on cross-functional privacy and security reviews across broader Roblox platform teams whenever account identity surfaces are touched.
• Data-Driven Experimentation: Design and run data-informed experiments to measure the efficacy of security controls, asset recovery workflows, and threat mitigation models.

Requirements

Security Management & Domain Depth

• Domain Expertise: Proven track record in Account Security, Identity Management, Fraud Detection, or Abuse Mitigation with a clear vision for detecting and mitigating Account Takeover (ATO).
• Security Leadership Track Record: Demonstrated success leading engineering teams to deliver security or abuse-fighting features end-to-end—from initial concept and prioritization through architectural alignment, implementation, and global launch.
• People Management: Direct experience leading, growing, and developing high-performing software engineering teams in high-growth or large-scale consumer environments.
• Technical Authoritativeness: Ability to remain hands-on, dive deep into distributed system codebases, and guide senior engineers through security infrastructure trade-offs.
• Entrepreneurial Mindset: Proactive drive to identify platform vulnerabilities, articulate business risks, and secure organizational alignment for novel security solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with modern authentication protocols (FIDO2, WebAuthn, Passkeys, OAuth2, OIDC).
• Background in client-side integrity monitoring (browser extension sandboxing, anti-tamper, bot detection).
• Practical experience applying machine learning models to post-login behavioral anomaly detection and fraud detection.
