About the role

Klaviyo empowers over 100,000 creators and businesses to own their destiny by making first-party customer data accessible and actionable.

As a Software Engineer on the Mobile App Growth team, your core ownership will focus on Klaviyo's native Android SDK (Kotlin)—the foundational SDK layer enabling customer brands to integrate Klaviyo into millions of third-party mobile applications. You will design, build, and ship features across our Android SDK while extending into adjacent mobile products enabled by it, including in-app messaging pipelines, universal linking, geofencing, and new greenfield products like mobile inbox. As part of a collaborative, high-ownership team, you will also pitch in on cross-platform wrapper SDKs (iOS/Swift, React Native, Expo, Flutter) and supporting backend/embedded web services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Android SDK Ownership: Design, build, test, and maintain features, bug fixes, and performance optimizations for Klaviyo’s core Android SDK (Kotlin), ensuring seamless execution across diverse device matrices, host app environments, and Android OS versions.
  • Adjacent Product Development: Contribute to the end-to-end features and backend infrastructure powering in-app messaging, universal link web tiers, geofencing, and mobile inbox capabilities.
  • Cross-Platform & Full-Stack Collaboration: Pitch in on cross-platform wrapper SDKs (iOS/Swift, React Native, Expo, Flutter) and supporting backend services (Python/Django, AWS) when team priorities require.
  • Developer Experience & Documentation: Create clear integration guides, sample applications, and technical documentation used directly by external developer teams adopting Klaviyo SDKs.
  • Customer Support & Issue Diagnosis: Diagnose, triage, and resolve complex SDK integration issues reported by customer engineering teams across custom host apps.
  • Code Quality & Automated Testing: Write clean, well-tested code, participating actively in design and code reviews while driving automated testing (unit, integration, instrumentation) and mobile CI/CD workflows.

Requirements

Android Engineering & Technical Depth

  • 1–3 years of professional Android software engineering experience, with strong proficiency in Kotlin and native Android development practices.
  • Android Platform Mastery: In-depth knowledge of the Android lifecycle, threading models, memory management, background services, and Gradle build configurations.
  • Debugging Host App Environments: Practical experience debugging code running inside third-party host app environments across a wide matrix of devices, OS versions, and custom configurations.
  • Quality & Mobile CI/CD: Hands-on experience with mobile unit/instrumentation testing practices and continuous integration/delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Self-Motivated & Adaptable: High ownership mindset with a willingness to learn adjacent technologies (iOS/Swift, Python, React, AWS) as the team's product scope expands.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with internal cross-functional partners and customer engineering teams.

Work Logistics

  • Ability to work remotely from within the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience building, publishing, or maintaining SDKs, libraries, or open-source packages for third-party developers.
  • Familiarity with push notification delivery systems, mobile messaging protocols, or location/geofencing APIs.
  • Exposure to iOS development (Swift), cross-platform mobile frameworks (React Native, Flutter), or backend cloud architecture (Python/Django, AWS, MySQL, DynamoDB).

Total Rewards & Benefits

  • Compensation & Equity: Base salary range of $116,000 – $174,000 USD + annual cash bonus plan + equity compensation package.
  • Healthcare & Wellbeing: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance options, plus dedicated health and wellbeing stipends.
  • Flexible Remote Work: Flexible working model with up to 10% coordinated travel for team offsites and industry events.
