About the role

Natera is a global leader in cell-free DNA (cfDNA) testing, dedicated to oncology, women’s health, and organ health. We make personalized genetic testing part of the standard of care to enable earlier, targeted interventions.

As a Forward Deployed Solutions Engineer (FDSE) on the central AI & Automation team, you will embed directly within core business domains (e.g., Commercial, Clinical Operations, Lab Operations, Sales & Marketing, Customer Experience). You will identify, build, deploy, and operate autonomous AI agents and automation pipelines that execute business processes 10–100x faster than traditional manual workflows. Reporting centrally while partnering with domain leadership, you will build production-grade agentic systems (MCP servers, RAG, tool calling, human-in-the-loop guardrails), track operational KPIs, and create reusable platform artifacts that compound across Natera.

Key Responsibilities

  • Domain Workflow & Leverage Discovery: Map current and prospective business processes within your assigned domain to identify high-leverage opportunities where AI agents, ML models, and automated integrations unlock dramatic speed and coverage.
  • Future-State System Architecture: Design end-to-end data flows across enterprise systems (CRM, ERP, ticketing, document stores, internal APIs); specify human-in-the-loop review checkpoints, retrieval context, and model memory.
  • Agentic Pipeline Engineering: Build and connect AI agents and automation workflows using approved LLM frameworks, Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers, APIs, webhooks, and custom Python scripts within IT and security guardrails.
  • Production Operations & Evals: Own agent performance in production. Instrument tracing, structured logging, and observability dashboards; build and run automated evals across model, prompt, or data schema updates.
  • Enterprise Integration & Reliability: Resolve complex integration challenges, including authentication, schema drift, API rate limiting, data quality, and safe rollback mechanisms.
  • Cross-Functional Enablement: Develop self-service tools, documentation, and artifacts that enable non-builder business partners to run and scale AI workflows independently.

Requirements

Technical Depth & Agent Architecture

  • Hands-On Technical Fluency: Proficient in Python scripting, SQL, REST APIs, webhooks, CLIs, and modern cloud platforms (AWS).
  • LLM & Agentic Systems Expertise: Working knowledge of large language model (LLM) behaviors, prompt engineering, context window management, tool use/function calling, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), Model Context Protocol (MCP), and evaluation frameworks.
  • Enterprise Security & Access: Deep commitment to least-privilege access, auditability, data privacy, and safe deployment guardrails when handling elevated permissions.
  • Process & Technical Judgment: Ability to think in business outcomes and KPIs, defend roadmap prioritization, and serve as a technical translator between engineering teams and business executives.

Work Logistics

  • Ability to work remotely within the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Practical experience using enterprise agent frameworks (CrewAI, LangChain, AWS Bedrock, Claude, Codex) or building directly against model provider APIs.
  • Background in forward-deployed engineering, solutions engineering, technical product management, management consulting, or technical operations.
  • Experience operating within healthcare or strictly regulated environments (HIPAA, SOC 2, GxP, SOX).

Year-One Success Milestones

  • Production Impact: Shipped 3+ automated agent workflows into production that measurably move core domain KPIs, supported by robust evals and observability.
  • Strategic Partnership: Integrated early into multi-quarter business planning by domain leadership as a trusted technical advisor.
  • Platform Compounding: Contributed at least 1 reusable agentic asset, MCP server, or tool module adopted by other engineers across Natera.
  • User Enablement: Enabled non-technical domain stakeholders to construct or manage workflows using artifacts you created.

Total Rewards & Benefits

  • Compensation & Equity: Tiered base salary ($95,100 – $145,300 USD) + annual performance bonus + equity compensation package.
  • Comprehensive Healthcare: Premium medical, dental, vision, life, and disability plans for employees and dependents.
  • Family & Health Perks: Free genetic testing for employees and immediate family, fertility care benefits, paid pregnancy leave, and baby bonding leave.
  • Retirement & Transportation: 401(k) retirement plan, pretax commuter benefits, and an employee referral bonus program.
