Engineering Manager - Core Ads Ranking & Graph ML

As the Engineering Manager for Core Ads Ranking, you will lead the machine learning team responsible for advancing user representation, graph learning, sequence modeling across ad verticals, and foundational ML architectures. You will set the technical vision for Reddit’s deep user-understanding roadmap and multiply impact through collaboration with downstream ML pods—including Retrieval, Shopping, Click Prediction, Video View-Through Prediction, Conversion Prediction, and App Ads Modeling. In this role, you will recruit, mentor, and retain top ML engineers while driving end-to-end model development in PyTorch or TensorFlow.

Key Responsibilities

• Technical Strategy & Vision: Define and execute the roadmap for foundational modeling and user understanding, balancing long-term research investments with measurable release milestones.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with vertical customer teams, horizontal signal engineering pods, and infrastructure teams to align on architecture, dataset pipelines, and resource constraints.
• ML Lifecycle Execution: Oversee the machine learning development lifecycle from ideation and feature engineering to deployment, ensuring high ML performance, calibration, and robustness.
• Team Leadership & Growth: Recruit, mentor, and retain top ML talent, fostering a high-performing engineering culture focused on continuous technical growth.
• Algorithmic Innovation: Drive core initiatives across knowledge distillation, model calibration, graph neural networks, and sequence modeling.

Requirements

Management & Engineering Experience

• 1+ years of direct management experience leading machine learning-focused engineering teams.
• 6+ years of experience building, scaling, and deploying production machine learning models.
• 4+ years of hands-on technical experience programming with PyTorch or TensorFlow.

Machine Learning Domain Depth

• Proven track record across the full end-to-end ML lifecycle (training, offline/online evaluation, and production deployment).
• Direct experience working with foundational models, user representation learning, or content/graph understanding architectures.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior machine learning experience within digital advertising, ad ranking, or recommendation engines.
• Experience with deep learning architectures for sequence modeling, knowledge distillation, or graph neural networks.
