About the role

At Affirm, we exist for the moments that matter—giving people a clear, predictable way to pay over time with no hidden fees, no surprises, and no tradeoffs on what matters most.

As the Manager of Sales Engineering, you will combine "People Come First" leadership, technical API depth, and strategic communication skills to help enterprise merchant partners evaluate and integrate Affirm. Operating within the Partner Engineering organization, you will manage, mentor, and scale a high-performing team of Sales Engineers while remaining actively hands-on in enterprise deals. You will lead technical discovery calls, build and test API-based integrations in sandbox environments, coach team members on using AI development tools safely and effectively, and collaborate closely with Affirm's Engineering, Product, and Revenue leadership to eliminate technical blockers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership & Development: Hire, mentor, and grow a team of Sales Engineers; set clear expectations for technical proficiency, merchant engagement, code quality, and career progression.
  • Hands-On Deal Participation: Actively participate in strategic merchant opportunities alongside your team, leading live technical discovery, architecture reviews, and integration solution presentations.
  • Technical Sandbox & AI Tooling Execution: Build, test, and troubleshoot API-based merchant integrations in sandbox environments; leverage and coach the team on AI development tools for rapid prototyping and solution testing.
  • Product & Engineering Feedback Loop: Translate merchant requirements, edge cases, and recurring integration challenges into actionable product roadmaps and process enhancements.
  • Cross-Functional Alignment: Partner with Product, Engineering, and Revenue teams to design merchant integration paths, resolve technical blockers, and win new enterprise accounts.
  • Inclusive Culture & Coaching: Foster a supportive, inclusive team environment where diverse perspectives contribute to technical excellence and continuous growth.

Requirements

Leadership & Technical Sales Depth

  • 4–6+ years of professional experience in Sales Engineering, Solutions Engineering, or a comparable customer-facing technical role.
  • 3–4+ years of direct people management experience developing technical talent and holding teams accountable for delivery.
  • Hands-On Technical Capability: Practical experience building, testing, and troubleshooting RESTful API-based integrations, with proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Python, JavaScript, Java).
  • Active Deal Engagement: Proven track record of staying hands-on while managing a team, personally leading technical customer conversations with developers, CTOs, and business executives.
  • Technical Judgment & Communication: Ability to translate complex business requirements into clear integration architectures, explain technical trade-offs, and spot deployment risks.

Logistics & Legal Eligibility

  • Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Ability to work remotely within the United States.
  • Must possess legal authorization to work in the United States without visa sponsorship (Visa sponsorship is not available).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience within e-commerce checkout platforms, point-of-sale integrations, payment gateways, or fintech networks.
  • Experience implementing or coaching teams on AI-assisted coding and prototyping tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, OpenAI API).

Total Rewards & Benefits

  • 100% Employer-Paid Healthcare: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance with 100% of premiums covered for employees and their eligible dependents.
  • Equity & Stock Purchase Plan: Equity rewards package plus Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP) allowing team members to buy Affirm stock at a discount.
  • Monthly Spending Stipends: Monthly stipends to support home office setups, tech gear, health, and wellness spending.
  • Time Off & Onboarding: Flexible time off, generous paid holiday schedules, and an interactive in-person onboarding experience.
