Senior Backend Engineer - Ads Measurement Systems

Reddit is home to over 100,000 active communities and approximately 130 million daily active unique visitors. Advertisers rely on conversion signals to measure campaign performance and optimize their return on ad spend (ROAS).

As a Senior Backend Software Engineer on the App Conversion Signals team, you will build and scale the backend pipelines that power Reddit’s mobile app advertising business. You will own Mobile Measurement Partner (MMP) integrations, StoreKit Ad Network (SKAN/SKAdNetwork) processing, and App Conversion API (App CAPI) ingestion services. Your engineering work will directly improve signal delivery diagnostics, deduplication mechanisms, validation workflows, and data lineage—ensuring app installs and in-app events are accurate, privacy-compliant, and seamless for advertisers.

Key Responsibilities

• End-to-End Signal Systems Ownership: Lead backend projects across MMP, SKAN, and App CAPI from requirements and technical design through implementation, rollout, and production operation.
• High-Throughput Ingestion Pipelines: Architect scalable ingestion and stream-processing microservices with clear API contracts, strict data validation, deduplication, failure recovery, and lineage tracking.
• Integration Tooling & Diagnostics: Develop self-serve diagnostic tools and monitoring solutions that empower advertisers and measurement partners to identify and fix signal delivery issues.
• Data Discrepancy & Quality Analysis: Analyze conversion signal quality metrics, investigate attribution discrepancies, and prioritize engine improvements alongside Product and Data Science partners.
• Schema & Partner Evolution: Work with partner engineering teams and downstream ads systems to evolve event schemas without breaking active advertiser integrations.
• Privacy & Operational Maturity: Incorporate data privacy controls and security requirements into system architectures while raising team quality through code reviews, incident post-mortems, and engineering mentorship.

Requirements

Experience & Functional Background

• Senior-level backend software engineering experience designing, building, and operating high-throughput production systems.
• Hands-on, domain-specific experience with app ad signals or mobile measurement, including deep technical familiarity with MMP integrations (e.g., AppsFlyer, Adjust, Singular, Kochava), SKAN / SKAdNetwork, or App CAPI / Conversion APIs.

Technical Capabilities & Skills

• Strong proficiency in modern backend programming languages (e.g., Python, Go, Java, or Scala).
• Expertise in API design, distributed systems architecture, and SQL / data-querying skills for independent investigation and debugging.
• Demonstrated track record of driving cross-functional projects to completion alongside Product, Data Science, and External Partner Engineering teams.
