About the role
At Oura, our mission is to empower every person to own their inner potential through award-winning smart ring technology and data-driven health insights.
As a Senior iOS Engineer on the Connectivity team, you will architect, design, and build the essential lower-level interface connecting the Oura Ring hardware to the iOS app. Sitting at the direct intersection between hardware, firmware, and user features, your team owns the CoreBluetooth / Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) communication layer. You will ensure fast, secure, and energy-efficient data transfer across millions of active devices, implement connectivity protocols for next-generation hardware products, and refactor legacy codebases to keep the application at the forefront of modern iOS development.
Key Responsibilities
- Connectivity Architecture: Architect, design, and ship lower-level Bluetooth capabilities enabling robust, encrypted communication between the Oura Ring and the iOS app.
- Hardware/Firmware Collaboration: Partner directly with Firmware, Platform, and App Feature engineering teams to design protocols and integrate next-generation product features.
- Codebase Modernization: Proactively identify and eliminate legacy code implementations, adopting modern Swift frameworks and design patterns to improve developer experience and application performance.
- Quality & Reliability: Maintain high test coverage through automated unit testing and manual testing protocols across diverse hardware environments in the field.
- Technical Leadership: Translate ambiguous hardware/software problems into clear, scalable technical solutions, leading execution through technical design and code reviews.
Requirements
Professional Experience & iOS Mastery
- 5+ years of professional software development experience building and shipping production iOS applications.
- Deep expertise in Swift, UIKit, modern iOS application architectures, and standard third-party libraries.
- Proven hands-on experience with iOS CoreBluetooth and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) protocols.
Engineering Fundamentals & Workflows
- Demonstrated experience collaborating on complex, shared codebases using Git, branching strategies, and standard code review processes.
- High focus on software quality using unit testing frameworks and performance debugging tools.
- Demonstrated technical leadership with the ability to drive ambiguous technical challenges through to release.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with modern iOS technologies: Swift structured concurrency (async/await), Combine, SQLite/GRDB, CoreAnimation, CoreGraphics, or PyTorch.
- Background developing health, wellness, wearable, or fitness IoT products.
- Deep understanding of computer science fundamentals, design patterns, and systems-level memory/performance optimization.
- Proven track record collaborating asynchronously across global teams and time zones.
- Contributions to open-source Swift/iOS projects or an impressive personal app portfolio.
Total Rewards & Benefits
- Health & Wellbeing: Comprehensive medical, dental, vision insurance, and mental health support resources.
- Equipment & Discounts: A complimentary Oura Ring for yourself plus employee discounts for friends and family.
- Time Off: 20 days of Paid Time Off (PTO) + 13 paid company holidays + 8 days of flexible wellness time off + paid parental and sick leave.
- Financial Rewards: Competitive starting salary paired with equity grants.
