Senior Software Engineer, Task Workflows Platform | Brex

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Task Workflows Platform team, you will build and scale the backend systems behind core Brex experiences, including the multi-channel notifications engine, the collaborative commenting system, and the dynamic workflow rule builder. You will also help evolve the task orchestration infrastructure, moving from a centralized, generic experience to purpose-built solutions for specific product domains. You will help shape broader product experiences, including using AI to streamline user workflows, and help build shared infrastructure for AI product development across the company.

Key Responsibilities

• Build new features and products end to end with engineers across the company
• Own problems end to end, from user experience and data models to scalability, operability, and metrics
• Provide technical leadership by driving roadmap direction, architectural design, and mentorship
• Work side by side with user-facing teams (Sales, Support) to understand customer needs
• Tune and polish features to a high standard of excellence
• Identify and implement reliability and performance improvements
• Uphold high engineering standards and bring consistency to codebases, infrastructure, and processes

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional experience designing, developing, and deploying full-stack products
• Strong proficiency in a backend language (Java, Kotlin, or Python)
• Experience architecting, building, and maintaining scalable, high-availability distributed systems
• Experience designing and optimizing SQL and/or NoSQL databases, including data modeling, query performance tuning, and schema design
• Experience building and maintaining RESTful APIs and/or GraphQL services
• Experience with modern frontend technologies such as ES6+, React, TypeScript, and Webpack
