About the role

The Staff Product Designer – UI Platform is a high-impact individual contributor position and a foundational design leadership role within Okta's global user experience infrastructure.

As part of the Product Platform group, you will serve as a subject-matter expert and strategic thought partner, shaping horizontal design patterns, design architecture, localization and globalization frameworks, and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) standards across Okta Workforce Identity products.

You will partner with cross-functional UI Platform leads to advance platform-level initiatives and align user experience (UX) with developer experience (DevEx) across product and engineering organizations. You will also work closely with the Design Systems team, bridging the gap between the design system and the feature teams implementing it.

Key Responsibilities

UI Platform and Design System Leadership

  • Partner with the Design Systems team to identify, create, document, and promote scalable, accessible, and localized design patterns.
  • Resolve dependencies across products by establishing consistent, reusable UI platform standards.
  • Help ensure quality, usability, and consistency across Okta's product experiences.

Strategic Partnership and Roadmap Planning

  • Collaborate with cross-functional UI Platform leaders to align product vision with design strategy.
  • Co-own the platform roadmap, balancing new features, technical debt, design quality, and adoption.
  • Drive decisions that improve both user experience and developer experience.

Design Excellence and Mentorship

  • Enable Okta Research and Development teams through clear alignment, guidance, and documentation.
  • Improve organization-wide design processes and practices.
  • Mentor designers, encourage candid feedback, and promote professional growth and craft excellence.
  • Maintain a high design-quality standard while balancing the need for speed and execution.

Data-Informed Design and AI

  • Use data and AI-driven insights to inform platform-level design decisions.
  • Apply AI workflows to streamline design processes and governance.
  • Exercise strong design judgment, systems thinking, and customer advocacy to maintain quality as teams accelerate UI development.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • At least 10 years of experience as a Product Designer.
  • A degree in a related field or equivalent relevant professional experience.
  • Proficiency in Figma, Miro, Balsamiq, or similar design tools.
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Proficiency in AI workflows and an understanding of how AI tools can support the product design process, including their strengths and limitations.
  • Strong systems-thinking skills and the ability to develop elegant, extensible design solutions.
  • Excellent design craft and attention to detail, with the ability to provide constructive feedback and mentorship.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex concepts through clear, accessible narratives.
  • Experience owning the design process across multiple teams within a product area, from strategy through execution.
  • A commitment to customer-focused design principles and cohesive, high-quality user experiences.
  • The ability to navigate ambiguity with curiosity, openness, and a learning mindset.
  • A collaborative approach that contributes to a healthy, effective team environment.
