About the role

Databricks is the Data and AI company. Over 20,000 organizations worldwide—including 70% of the Fortune 500—rely on the Databricks Data + AI Platform (featuring Unity Catalog, Lakehouse, Lakeflow, Genie, and Agent Bricks) to build and scale data pipelines, analytics, AI applications, and autonomous agents.

As a Solutions Architect for Public Sector, you will lead technical pre-sales, architecture design, and strategic evaluations for federal, state, and local government clients. Reporting to the Field Engineering Manager, you will partner with Sales Account Executives to demonstrate how Databricks solves complex public sector data challenges. In this customer-facing role, you will build proof-of-concepts (PoCs), design production-grade lakehouse architectures, and champion open-source data ecosystems (Apache Spark™, Delta Lake, MLflow, and Koalas) across developer communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Pre-Sales Leadership: Partner with Sales teams to guide public sector clients through technical evaluations, architecture reviews, and platform adoption.
  • Proofs of Concept & Solution Architecture: Design and build custom proof-of-concept (PoC) implementations spanning data engineering, real-time analytics, machine learning, and data warehousing.
  • Reference Architectures & Demos: Develop reusable reference architectures, technical how-to guides, and demo applications to showcase Databricks value to government stakeholders.
  • Open-Source Advocacy: Serve as an advocate for open-source technologies (Apache Spark™, Delta Lake, MLflow, Koalas) by presenting at meetups, technical conferences, and webinars.
  • Third-Party & Cloud Validation: Validate integrations between Databricks, public cloud services (AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, GCP), legacy data warehouses, and custom enterprise applications.

Requirements

Pre-Sales & Technical Experience

  • 6+ years of professional experience in a customer-facing technical pre-sales, solutions architecture, or technical consulting role.
  • Proven experience supporting Public Sector, Government, or Highly Regulated Industry clients.
  • Experience designing and architecting large-scale distributed data systems.
  • U.S. Citizenship is mandatory for this role.

Technical Competencies

  • Programming and debugging proficiency in at least one modern data language: Python, Scala, Java, SQL, or R.
  • Hands-on experience building architectures on public cloud providers (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Practical expertise in data engineering infrastructure (Apache Spark, Hadoop, Apache Kafka) and data warehousing concepts (OLAP, OLTP, DSS).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a quantitative discipline (Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, or Software Engineering).
  • Official Databricks Certifications (e.g., Databricks Certified Solutions Architect or Data Engineer).
  • Familiarity with federal cloud compliance frameworks (FedRAMP, DoD IL4/IL5) and public sector procurement cycles.

Total Rewards & Benefits

  • Pay Transparency: Compensation / OTE range of $180,000 – $247,500 USD + eligibility for annual performance bonuses and equity grants.
  • Healthcare & Wellbeing: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance options for employees and eligible dependents.
  • Financial Security & Time Off: 401(k) retirement program, paid parental leave, flexible time off, and dedicated workspace stipends.
