About the role

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses—ranging from ambitious startups to global enterprises—that accept payments, grow revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Stripe's mission is to increase the GDP of the internet.

As a Solutions Architect on the SMB team, you will work directly with C-level executives, payments leaders, and engineering teams within the mid-market and SMB segments. Serving as a trusted technical advisor, you will map complex business challenges to Stripe’s product ecosystem—including Payments, Connect, Billing, Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS), and the Link Network. You will secure technical wins, architect scalable payment flows, and build reusable enablement assets (templates, playbooks, webinars) that act as force-multipliers across the sales funnel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Executive Technical Advisory: Build trusted advisor relationships with CIOs, CTOs, COOs, and Heads of Payments to align Stripe's technical architecture with customer business goals.
  • Solution Architecture & Technical Wins: Lead technical discovery, design custom payment and billing architectures, deliver tailored product demonstrations, and author technical RFP responses.
  • Scalable Force-Multiplier Assets: Create 1-to-many technical collateral, webinars, office hours, and integration playbooks that accelerate account adoption across the SMB segment.
  • Footprint Expansion & Global Localization: Help customers expand into new global markets and business units by architecting support for local payment methods and new platform capabilities.
  • Product Feedback Loop: Synthesize field insights, competitive trends, and customer friction points to directly inform Stripe’s Product and Engineering teams.
  • Cross-Functional Partner Engagement: Partner with Professional Services, System Integrators, and internal Go-To-Market teams to streamline customer activations and shorten time-to-live metrics.

Requirements

Practical Experience & Education

  • 2+ years of experience in a customer-facing technical engineering role (e.g., Solutions Architect, Sales Engineer, Customer Success Engineer, Professional Services Delivery) in fintech or enterprise software; OR 3+ years of total relevant experience in software development or enterprise sales architecture.
  • Demonstrated track record of presenting complex technical solutions to executive audiences.

Technical Competencies & Systems Thinking

  • Deep understanding of software development practices, with hands-on experience writing code in at least 2 primary programming languages supported by Stripe (e.g., Ruby, Python, JavaScript, Java, Go).
  • Strong systems architecture knowledge: ability to analyze how disparate enterprise platforms (CRM, ERP, Billing, Tax, and legacy backend systems) interact via APIs.
  • Willingness and speed in mastering Stripe’s developer product suite (Payments, Billing, Connect, Financial Connections, BaaS).

Leadership & Soft Skills

  • Exceptional written, verbal, and executive-level presentation skills.
  • Proven capability to solve open-ended business problems using technology and creative architectural design.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 25% for business needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working within payment-tech, acquiring platforms, or financial infrastructure environments.
  • Prior experience optimizing enterprise financial processes or building SaaS/marketplace monetization models.
