About the role
Gemini is a global crypto and Web3 platform founded in 2014 by Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, delivering secure, reliable crypto products to millions of individuals and institutions across 70+ countries.
As a Staff Product Engineer on the Tooling team, you will set the technical vision and drive the architecture for customer-facing platform tooling across backend microservices, web, and mobile surfaces. Your technical leadership will define the core user journey—from initial onboarding and identity/KYC compliance to customer support workflows and complex multi-system initiatives. Operating as a technical multiplier, you will advance Gemini's AI-assisted development tools and agentic SDLC pipeline—where specialized agents plan, implement, and review code alongside human engineers—while mentoring engineers and guiding architectural decisions across the broader product unit.
Key Responsibilities
- Multi-System Architecture & Leadership: Independently scope, design, and deliver end-to-end architectures for complex, cross-cutting challenges spanning backend microservices, web platforms, and mobile apps.
- Core Platform Tooling: Drive the architectural evolution of internal and external platforms backing user onboarding, identity verification (KYC), regulatory compliance, and customer support.
- Agentic SDLC & AI Innovation: Wield and advance AI coding agents and automated harnesses, setting team-wide standards for offloading toil to automation while holding critical decision gates.
- Cross-Team Technical Governance: Plug into design reviews beyond your immediate team, establish best practices for code health and information security, and guide teams away from architectural pitfalls.
- DevOps & Operational Ownership: Own the long-term operational health, security, disaster recovery, and operational review processes for the platforms within your domain.
- Engineering Culture & Mentorship: Act as a technical multiplier by providing compassionate technical coaching, mentoring senior engineers, participating in hiring, and advocating for long-term technical investments.
Requirements
Experience & Technical Breadth
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience building, architecting, and operating complex production systems at scale.
- Proven track record of independently designing and shipping multi-system, multi-team projects from initial architecture through production operations.
- Proficiency across multiple layers of the stack (backend services plus web and/or mobile).
- Fluency in a typed language (e.g., TypeScript, Scala, Java, Go) and hands-on comfort with JavaScript/TypeScript for web and mobile surfaces.
- Consumer-facing application background with a strong understanding of UX/UI concepts and product sensibility.
AI Tooling & Technical Leadership
- Fluency in incorporating AI coding tools and automation into everyday development workflows.
- Expertise in unit/integration testing strategies and a strict commitment to code health and maintainability.
- Demonstrated technical leadership: building consensus among cross-functional stakeholders, driving technical alignment across time zones, and mentoring engineering teams.
Presence Requirements
- Ability to report in person twice a week at Gemini's hub office in New York City, NY.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the crypto, Web3, or fintech industry.
- Direct domain experience with onboarding systems, identity verification (KYC), compliance tooling, or customer success software.
- Experience building, operating, or integrating production AI agents or agentic workflows.
- Familiarity with React / React Native and cloud microservices architectures.
- Background using data analytics and A/B experimentation to influence product roadmaps.
- Track record of acting as a technical multiplier beyond your core area of expertise.
Total Rewards & Benefits
- Compensation: Base salary of $168,000 – $240,000 USD (NY) + discretionary annual bonus + new hire long-term equity grant (RSUs/Options).
- Healthcare & Family: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance plans; paid parental leave.
- Financial Security: 401(k) retirement savings program with company matching.
- Time Off: Flexible Time Off (FTO) policy and paid company holidays.
