About the role
Pricing is the primary economic engine of Lyft's marketplace—a real-time, high-precision system that processes millions of fare calculations per hour while balancing rider affordability, driver earnings, and sustainable growth.
As the Staff Product Manager for Base Pricing, you will own the overarching vision, strategy, and roadmap for how Lyft sets base prices across every ride type, region, and ride intent globally. Sitting at the intersection of marketplace economics, data science, and engineering, you will lead the evolution of Lyft's machine learning and optimization stack. Your work will dictate how base prices predict marketplace demand response, translate cost-to-serve into prices, integrate with downstream dynamic pricing systems, and adapt to emerging hybrid networks featuring autonomous vehicles (AVs).
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Pricing Vision & Roadmap: Own the multi-year vision, roadmap, and core business metrics for Lyft's base pricing stack, determining the optimal granularity (time, location, trip type) for base price setting.
- Algorithmic Optimization & Cost Modeling: Re-evaluate and refine how fulfillment costs impact pricing, improving how base price optimization engines interface with real-time dynamic pricing levers.
- Multi-Modal Portfolio Pricing: Jointly optimize prices across Lyft’s full portfolio of ride options—including standard rides, alternative transit modes, and scheduled rides.
- Autonomous Vehicle (AV) Integration: Evolve base pricing systems and marketplace models to function seamlessly within hybrid network fleets combining human drivers and autonomous vehicles.
- Causal Inference & Experimentation: Design, execute, and analyze market-level A/B experiments using causal inference techniques to measure economic elasticity, revenue impact, and rider/driver outcomes.
- Cross-Functional Alignment & Executive Communication: Partner with Data Science, Operations Research, Market Management, and Driver Earnings teams to align on strategy, presenting roadmaps and experiment results up to Lyft's executive leadership.
Requirements
Product & Domain Experience
- 5+ years of product management or relevant experience, with significant time spent driving algorithmic, data-driven, pricing, or two-sided marketplace products.
- Direct experience owning pricing strategy, revenue management, or economic levers with direct P&L impact.
- Practical experience with price optimization models, elasticity modeling, or fulfillment cost modeling.
Technical & Quantitative Skills
- Deep technical understanding of microeconomics, paired with a background or working fluency in Operations Research, Econometrics, Machine Learning, or algorithmic systems.
- Proficiency working directly with data: hands-on SQL querying, data aggregation, visualization, and collaborative ML model design with data science partners.
- Demonstrated mastery of experimental design, market-level A/B testing, and statistical/causal inference methodologies.
Leadership & Execution
- Proven ability to manage ambiguity, complexity, and dependencies across cross-functional engineering, research, and business teams.
- Executive-level communication skills capable of framing complex marketplace dynamics into actionable strategic insights.
