About the role

Samsara is looking for an Electrical Engineer co-op to work on the electrical design of its hardware products. You will contribute to feasibility, design, and cost studies covering component selection, thermals, antennas, and more, using Samsara’s telemetry and direct customer access to guide design. You will work with Product Management, Firmware, NPI, and Hardware leadership, plus Supply Chain, labs, and JDM partners, and share your expertise with other engineers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to shipping successful product lines
  • Research the latest silicon from leading semiconductor companies
  • Evaluate system feature trade-offs and create system specifications with product management and cross-functional engineering teams
  • Prototype with EVKs, board hacks, or quick-turn fabrication to evaluate concepts or jump-start firmware development
  • Take a concept from block diagram through schematics and layout, on your own or with JDM resources
  • Create a validation plan for each phase through PVT and characterize the full electrical system for function, power, and use cases
  • Find the root cause of design inefficiencies and field failures, and improve designs to meet performance and quality requirements
  • Work with JDM partners, certification labs, and external consultants on design, validation, certification, and manufacturing
  • Embody Samsara’s cultural principles: Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in progress in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field (Master’s-level co-op students also welcome)
  • Second- or third-time co-op, or Master’s-level student; first-time co-ops and first-year students are not considered, and ideally you are a junior with prior internship or co-op experience
  • Commitment to the full co-op (minimum 6 months, full time) at a university that supports a 6-month co-op, or lets you take two quarters or one semester off
  • Prior intern or co-op experience on high-volume hardware programs
  • Solid fundamentals in digital, analog, and mixed-signal circuits
  • Schematic and layout knowledge in Altium, Cadence, or Allegro
  • Ability to balance design, manufacturability, schedule, and cost
  • Hands-on experience with test instruments such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, and spectrum analyzers
  • Knowledge of cameras, sensors, WiFi, LTE, Bluetooth, GPS, antennas, and batteries
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration and independent work
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication
  • Legal right to work in the specified location
