Engineering Manager - Atlassian Cloud Platform

At Riot Games, Jira is a foundational enterprise platform that powers, tracks, and enables the majority of player-facing value streams and game development workflows across the company.

As Manager, Atlassian Cloud Platform, you will lead the engineering and administrative team responsible for the strategic direction, operational health, governance, and delivery of Riot’s enterprise Atlassian Cloud ecosystem. In this "player/coach" leadership role, you will manage a team of 2–5 application engineers while maintaining deep technical hands-on expertise across Jira architecture, marketplace integrations, configuration-as-code, access security, and service management. You will partner with IT, InfoSec, and global game studios to eliminate workflow friction so Rioters can focus on making great games for players.

Key Responsibilities

• Team Leadership & Development: Manage, coach, and evolve a team of 2–5 application engineers and SaaS administrators; lead hiring, onboarding, performance reviews, and career development.
• SaaS Governance & Operational Health: Define and enforce scalable governance models for Jira spaces, workflows, custom fields, permissions, service portals, and Atlassian Marketplace add-ons.
• Platform Architecture & Delivery: Guide system architecture, environment promotions, integrations, security controls, and configuration automation across a multi-site, high-volume Jira instance.
• Roadmap & Backlog Management: Establish team processes for intake, prioritization, discovery, and delivery—balancing new feature requests with technical debt, licensing, maintenance, and platform upgrades.
• Cross-Functional Alignment: Collaborate with InfoSec, IT Infrastructure, Enterprise Systems, and global studio teams to align platform decisions with Riot's overarching technology strategy.
• Vendor Management: Build and maintain strategic relationships with Atlassian and marketplace vendor partners; oversee platform licensing, budget renewals, commercial negotiations, and technical escalations.

Requirements

Management & Leadership

• 2+ years of direct management experience leading technical individual contributors (application engineers, SaaS administrators, or solutions architects) in an enterprise platform or business systems environment.
• Proven experience establishing hiring practices, setting quarterly goals, managing performance, and coaching technical talent.

Technical & Platform Depth

• 6+ years of hands-on experience administering and engineering Jira at enterprise scale (environments supporting thousands of users, multi-site deployments, and complex API integrations).
• Extensive experience operating large SaaS platforms with attention to high availability, RBAC security, change management, lifecycle governance, and support operations.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with a track record of translating complex architecture trade-offs for technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience in application engineering.
• Direct experience with extended Atlassian products: Jira Service Management, Assets, Jira Product Discovery, Jira Advanced Planning, Atlassian Guard, Rovo, Confluence, or Atlassian Analytics.
• Experience with Atlassian Marketplace tools (ScriptRunner, Structure, eazyBI) and configuration-as-code/migration platforms (Salto).
• Background managing Atlassian licensing tiers, enterprise renewals, and vendor commercial negotiations.
• Active Atlassian Certifications (e.g., ACP-120, ACP-420, or equivalent credentials).
