About the role

DecisionPoint Corporation is seeking a Subject Matter Expert (SME) Lead Data/ETL Engineer to provide technical leadership and hands-on engineering for enterprise data ingestion, transformation, integration, and delivery under the USMEPCOM ENLIST program.

In this senior technical role, you will lead the design, optimization, and modernization of data integration pipelines supporting mission analysis, business intelligence, and AI/ML capabilities. You will maintain and optimize SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), implement secure API integrations, write custom Python automation scripts, and build raw, standardized, and curated data layers. Working closely with DBAs, AI/ML engineers, data architects, governance teams, and Government stakeholders, you will establish rigorous frameworks for data lineage, incremental loading (CDC), reconciliation checks, error quarantining, and disaster recovery.

Key Responsibilities

  • ETL Strategy & Pipeline Engineering: Design, build, optimize, and maintain enterprise data integration pipelines, SSIS packages, configurations, schedules, and execution dependencies.
  • Data Layer Architecture: Build and maintain raw, standardized, and curated data layers with fully documented transformation rules, source-to-target mappings, and reference data models.
  • Python Automation & API Integration: Develop Python scripts for orchestration, ingestion, and validation; implement API integrations with custom authentication, pagination, rate-limiting, retries, and error handling.
  • Data Quality & Reconciliation: Establish source-to-target record count verifications, automated data quality checks, quarantine procedures, and controlled reprocessing for failed records.
  • Lineage, Schema & Metadata Management: Track end-to-end data lineage, manage schema evolution impacts across downstream analytics models, and align definitions with data governance teams.
  • System Resilience & Recovery: Implement restartable pipeline processing, controlled retries, change-data capture (CDC), incremental loading, and error-logging audit trails.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Coordinate pipeline updates with database administrators, AI/ML engineers, BI developers, independent testing teams, and Government stakeholders.
  • DevOps & Documentation: Maintain version-controlled code, automated deployment steps, operational runbooks, and technical architecture documentation.

Requirements

Experience & Security Clearance

  • Active U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance or higher is strictly required.
  • 12+ years of relevant professional experience in data engineering, ETL architecture, and database operations.
  • CompTIA Security+ CE or another approved IAT Level II baseline certification.

Technical Competencies

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related quantitative field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Deep experience maintaining, debugging, and optimizing SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and advanced SQL queries/stored procedures.
  • Hands-on experience using Python for data engineering automation, pipeline orchestration, and validation.
  • Demonstrated experience building raw, standardized, and curated data layers, implementing incremental loading / CDC, and designing API integrations.
  • Proven capability in establishing automated reconciliation checks, error quarantines, failure recovery, and data lineage documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant data engineering or cloud platform certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified Azure Data Engineer, AWS Certified Data Engineer, or Databricks).
  • Prior experience supporting federal, defense, or Department of Defense (DoD) data environments.
  • Practical experience modernizing legacy SSIS integrations or migrating data pipelines to cloud-native platforms.
  • Familiarity with enterprise data warehousing, automated data catalogs, CI/CD deployment pipelines, and secrets management.

Total Rewards & Compliance Information

  • Equal Employment Opportunity: DecisionPoint Corporation is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer providing equal opportunity regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, protected veteran status, or any other protected class.
