About the role
Okta secures identity for the world’s leading organizations, building trusted, neutral infrastructure to safeguard humans and AI workloads alike. The UI Platform team serves as a force multiplier for Okta’s entire product portfolio, crafting components, accessible frameworks, and developer tools that directly power millions of daily administrative and end-user interactions.
As the Staff Product Designer for UI Platform, you will serve as a foundational design lead and strategic thought partner for Okta's global user experience infrastructure. Embedded within the Product Platform group, you will define horizontal design patterns, design architecture, globalization/localization frameworks, and WCAG accessibility standards across every Okta Workforce Identity product. You will bridge the gap between user experience (UX) and developer experience (DevEx), partnering closely with cross-functional engineering leads and the Design Systems team to elevate design craft and hold a high quality bar.
Key Responsibilities
- UI System Leadership & Pattern Governance: Serve as the resident expert for the UI platform and design system—identifying, documenting, and evangelizing scalable, accessible (WCAG), and localized UI patterns across horizontal product scopes.
- Developer Experience (DevEx) & UX Alignment: Partner with cross-functional UI Platform leads to align long-term technical architecture with design strategy, balancing platform features, tech debt, accessibility, and developer adoption.
- Craft Elevation & Mentorship: Establish org-wide design guidelines, mentor designers across feature teams, lead candid feedback loops, and maintain high standards for visual and interaction polish.
- AI Integration & Data-Informed Design: Leverage data insights and modern AI design workflows to streamline governance, evaluate platform adoption, and build adaptive enterprise UI patterns.
- System-to-Feature Bridge: Collaborate directly with the core Design Systems team, serving as a primary liaison helping feature teams successfully integrate and scale platform components.

- Deep systems-thinking capabilities with a track record of building, maintaining, or expanding complex design systems and component libraries.
- Strong knowledge of WCAG accessibility standards, internationalization/localization frameworks, and design architecture.
- Hands-on proficiency in modern design and prototyping tools (Figma, Miro, Balsamiq, or equivalent).
- Working knowledge of front-end web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
Mindset & Process
- Proficient in AI-assisted design workflows with a clear perspective on where AI tools enhance product design and where human craft remains essential.
- Exceptional communication and storytelling skills, capable of translating intricate technical concepts into clear design narratives for executive stakeholders.
Office Presence & Orientation
- Ability to report to a local Okta office 2 days per week.
- Must attend mandatory in-person onboarding orientation in either Chicago, IL or San Francisco, CA.
