About the role

GitLab is the intelligent orchestration platform for DevSecOps, trusted by over 50 million registered users and more than 50% of the Fortune 100 to ship software faster and more securely.

The Subscription Lifecycle team within GitLab's Monetization section owns the post-purchase customer journey. This includes the frontend interfaces and backend microservices that customers rely on to manage subscriptions, process product renewals, configure auto-renewals, handle reconciliations, and view billing account utilization across the Customers Portal.

As an Intermediate Fullstack Engineer, you will build end-to-end features using Ruby on Rails on the backend and Vue.js on the frontend. Because these workflows directly govern revenue generation, account provisioning, and customer access, you will apply rigorous technical judgment, safe iterative rollout practices, and automated testing to ensure maximum reliability and correctness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Post-Purchase Feature Engineering: Design and build fullstack capabilities across the post-purchase subscription lifecycle, including manual renewals, auto-renewal flows, seat additions, and account visibility.
  • Fullstack Technical Execution: Deliver production-ready code across both the frontend (Vue.js) and backend (Ruby on Rails), maintaining the Customers Portal and billing integration surfaces.
  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate with Product Managers, UX Designers, and Finance/Billing operations to translate complex checkout, subscription, and licensing requirements into clear technical plans.
  • Safe Rollouts & Architectural Hygiene: Implement feature flags, canary deployments, automated test coverage, and incident response procedures for revenue-critical billing systems.
  • Third-Party Integrations: Integrate subscription lifecycle workflows safely with core enterprise billing and CRM systems (Zuora, Salesforce, Stripe).
  • Code Quality & Technical Debt: Participate in peer code reviews, provide constructive architectural feedback, and systematically identify and remediate technical debt.

Requirements

Fullstack Engineering Depth & Domain Experience

  • Fullstack Software Experience: Professional experience working as a fullstack software engineer with hands-on proficiency across both frontend and backend technologies.
  • Core Tech Stack: Practical experience with Ruby on Rails (or comparable MVC web frameworks) and modern frontend JavaScript frameworks (Vue.js preferred, or React/Angular).
  • Transactional & Checkout Systems: Experience building, scaling, or maintaining transactional, payment, or checkout-style workflows in a SaaS, e-commerce, billing, or subscription environment.
  • Safe & Incremental Delivery: Deep commitment to incremental shipping, feature flagging, testing, and rollout safety given the direct business impact on revenue and customer access.
  • Asynchronous Collaboration: Written and spoken English fluency suitable for a high-autonomy, remote, and asynchronously driven engineering organization.

Work Logistics

  • Ability to work remotely from within the AMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa, Americas) regional hiring jurisdictions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct hands-on integration experience with enterprise billing, payment gateways, or CRM systems (e.g., Zuora, Stripe, Salesforce).
  • Prior experience with open-source development models or handbook-first corporate operating environments.
  • Familiarity with SaaS licensing, seat reconciliation, usage-based billing metrics, or financial compliance logic.

Total Rewards & Benefits

  • Compensation & Equity: Market-competitive base salary + equity compensation package + Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP) participation.
  • Flexibility & Remote Culture: Fully remote, asynchronous working environment with Flexible Paid Time Off (PTO) and parental leave policies.
  • Professional Growth: Dedicated Growth and Development Fund for continuous learning, certifications, and career advancement.
  • Home Office & Well-Being: Home office setup stipends, health/wellness coverage, and access to Team Member Resource Groups (TMRGs).
