Senior Full-Stack Engineer - React, TypeScript & APIs

Every day, tens of millions of people come to Roblox to explore, create, play, learn, and connect across 3D immersive digital experiences. The Global Actions team builds the foundational systems that make core user actions work seamlessly and consistently across every surface and platform on Roblox.

As a Senior Full-Stack Engineer on the Global Actions team, you will focus on building and scaling the Affinity System—a unified engine powering how millions of users save, organize, and curate content across Roblox (covering Saves, Collections, and Wishlists to replace today’s legacy Favorites experience). Working across the entire stack, you will architect high-throughput backend services, design scalable data models with complex privacy/visibility rules, build cross-platform React and TypeScript UI surfaces, and lead seamless multi-platform data migrations across web, mobile, desktop, console, and VR devices.

Key Responsibilities

• Backend API & Service Architecture: Design and build high-throughput backend APIs and microservices covering collections, item associations, pagination, and batching.
• Legacy Migration Leadership: Lead the zero-downtime migration from legacy Favorites to the unified Saved/Affinity infrastructure without data loss across Web, iOS, Android, Windows, Mac, Consoles, and VR.
• Cross-Platform UI Development: Build intuitive, responsive consumer-facing surfaces—including the Saved Library and Collections management pages—using React and TypeScript in close partnership with Product and Design.
• Privacy & Security Data Modeling: Architect robust data models and access control layers that enforce strict privacy, safety, moderation, and visibility rules across shared content.
• Platform Extensibility: Extend the Affinity framework to support new entity types, social features, and discovery surfaces as the Roblox ecosystem expands.

Requirements

Full-Stack Systems Depth

• 3+ years of professional experience building and deploying full-stack software systems at scale (covering both backend microservices/APIs and client-side applications).
• Frontend Mastery: Hands-on experience with modern frontend stacks (React, TypeScript/JavaScript, component-driven architecture, and state management).
• Backend & Data Modeling Depth: Demonstrated skill in client-server architecture, database schema design, REST/gRPC API design, and data modeling for complex visibility and privacy rules.
• Analytical & Systems Thinking: Proven ability to tackle ambiguous technical challenges, including edge-case migration logic, moderation constraints, and data integrity.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborative mindset with a track record of partnering effectively with Product, Design, and QA teams.

Education & Work Logistics

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent practical industry experience).
• Ability to work onsite at least 3 days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) at Roblox headquarters in San Mateo, CA.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience executing large-scale, zero-downtime data migrations for high-traffic consumer internet applications.
• Familiarity with cross-platform application frameworks spanning web, mobile shells, or gaming consoles.
• Prior experience with Trust & Safety, content moderation workflows, or enterprise access-control frameworks.
