About the role
Every day, tens of millions of people come to Roblox to explore, create, play, learn, and connect across 3D immersive digital experiences.
As a Senior Software Engineer on the Connections team, you will build end-to-end systems and user-facing applications that empower players to connect, friend each other, and play together on Roblox. In this frontend-leaning full-stack role, you will own critical features across the social graph—driving company-level objectives for user engagement and retention. You will collaborate directly with Product, Design, and Engineering partners to conceptualize, code, A/B test, and launch zero-to-one features used by millions of global daily users.
Key Responsibilities
- End-to-End Feature Delivery: Design, build, and ship frontend-leaning, full-stack software features across client applications, APIs, and backend services.
- Social Graph & Engagement: Own features that power the Roblox social graph—including friending, social discovery, player connection flows, and retention initiatives.
- Project Ownership & A/B Testing: Drive projects from ideation to production, managing architecture decisions, user experience details, and A/B experimental rollouts.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Product Managers, UX Designers, and Backend Engineers to define product requirements, user journeys, and technical specs.
- Product & Quality Focus: Champion user needs by reviewing telemetry, running user-centric experiments, and maintaining high software reliability and performance standards.
Requirements
Experience & Technical Stack
- 5+ years of professional experience building full-stack applications, including client-side frontend interfaces, REST/gRPC APIs, and backend services.
- Frontend-Leaning Focus: Strong expertise in modern web or application frontend frameworks paired with solid server-side API integration skills.
- Software Engineering Craft: Proven ability to manage full product lifecycles independently—from technical planning through deployment, experiment analysis, and maintenance.
Education & Work Logistics
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Ability to work onsite 3 days per week (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays) at Roblox HQ in San Mateo, CA.
- Note: Roblox may not be able to support certain visa categories or future H-1B sponsorship for this position.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience designing and analyzing A/B tests and feature experiments at scale.
- Domain experience building social features, messaging systems, friending mechanics, or player identity tools.
- Product-driven mindset with a track record of taking ownership of user engagement metrics.
Total Rewards & Workplace Benefits
- Compensation: Base salary of $196,750 – $243,290 USD + comprehensive long-term equity grant package.
- Healthcare & Wellness: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage options; mental health resources and wellness stipends.
- Financial Security: 401(k) program with company matching; life and disability insurance.
- Time Off & Work Culture: Generous PTO policies, observed holidays, and hybrid workplace flexibility.
