About the role
Apollo.io is the leading go-to-market platform for revenue teams, trusted by over 500,000 companies and millions of users globally. Valued at $1.6 billion and backed by premier investors including Sequoia Capital and Bain Capital Ventures, Apollo gives sales and marketing professionals access to verified B2B contact data alongside end-to-end engagement automation.
As a Senior Data Scientist on the Product Analytics team, you will shape product strategy and decision-making by transforming complex user behavior data into actionable growth insights. You will partner side-by-side with Product Managers, Engineers, and Designers to optimize core product features, recalibrate Product-Led Growth (PLG) activation metrics (e.g., "aha" and habit moments), and analyze conversion funnels across our platform. In addition to optimizing mature product lines, you will support 0-to-1 product launches by establishing baseline tracking frameworks, defining success metrics, and analyzing early-stage adoption patterns.
Key Responsibilities
- Product Strategy & Insights: Translate business needs into exploratory analysis, cohort studies, and actionable product recommendations that directly improve user experience and retention.
- PLG & Funnel Optimization: Uncover drop-off points in user onboarding journeys; analyze time-series data and conversion funnels to recalibrate key activation metrics (activation triggers, habit moments, and feature adoption).
- A/B Testing & Statistical Rigor: Design, execute, and analyze controlled experiments (A/B testing) to validate product iterations and measure feature impact accurately.
- Product Analytics Infrastructure: Partner with engineering teams to define event taxonomy, track end-to-end user journeys using product analytics tools (Amplitude, Heap, Mixpanel), and maintain reliable analytics data models.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with cross-functional leaders to identify critical product questions, establish key performance indicators (KPIs), and present technical data insights clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
- AI-Native Workflow: Utilize AI assistants, automated data tools, and statistical scripting to accelerate analytical velocity and build repeatable data models.
Requirements
Analytical Depth & Product Sense
- Educational Background: Degree in Analytics, Applied Mathematics, Economics, Statistics, Computer Science, or an equivalent combination of analytical training and experience.
- Advanced Product Analytics: Proven track record in product analytics, exploratory data analysis, time-series modeling, cohort retention analysis, and multi-step funnel optimization.
- Core Technical Stack:
- SQL Expertise: Expert-level SQL proficiency for data extraction, aggregation, and performance tuning.
- Statistical Computing: High proficiency in Python or R for statistical analysis, machine learning modeling, and experimental design.
- Product Event Analytics: Hands-on experience with modern event-tracking platforms (Amplitude, Heap, or Mixpanel) to analyze end-to-end user flows.
- Experimental Design: Deep understanding of A/B testing methodologies, hypothesis formulation, sample sizing, and statistical significance calculations in digital product settings.
- B2B SaaS / PLG Experience: Strong product sense with experience supporting Product-Led Growth (PLG) SaaS platforms, uncovering onboarding friction, and optimizing activation funnels.
Work Logistics
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-ownership startup environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting 0-to-1 product launches—defining initial event telemetry, establishing metric baselines, and analyzing early user feedback.
- Familiarity with enterprise Business Intelligence tools (Looker, Tableau) for building executive-facing diagnostic dashboards.
- Familiarity with predictive machine learning models applied to customer churn forecasting, lead propensity scoring, or user segmentation.
Total Rewards & Benefits
- Cash & Equity: Competitive base salary + annual performance bonus + equity stock options in a Series D SaaS unicorn.
- Comprehensive Healthcare: Medical, dental, and vision benefits, along with HSA/FSA options and global travel insurance.
- Financial Security: 401(k) retirement plan, life/AD&D insurance, and short/long-term disability coverage.
